Description
This Bourbon Chicken recipe features tender chicken simmered in a sweet, tangy, and slightly spicy sauce. Quick, easy, and perfect for family dinners.
Ingredients
2 lbs boneless chicken breasts, cut into bite-size pieces
1–2 tbsp olive oil
1 garlic clove, crushed
1/4 tsp ginger
3/4 tsp crushed red pepper flakes
1/4 cup apple juice
1/3 cup light brown sugar
2 tbsp ketchup
1 tbsp cider vinegar
1/2 cup water
1/3 cup soy sauce
Instructions
1. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
2. Add chicken pieces and cook until lightly browned. Remove chicken.
3. Add garlic, ginger, red pepper flakes, apple juice, brown sugar, ketchup, vinegar, water, and soy sauce to the skillet. Stir to combine and heat until the sugar dissolves.
4. Return chicken to the pan, bring to a hard boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until sauce thickens.
5. Serve hot over steamed rice.
Notes
Adjust red pepper flakes for desired spice level.
For a gluten-free version, use tamari instead of soy sauce.
Add vegetables like bell peppers or snap peas for extra nutrition.
